Style Report - City Cool Meet Tropics Casual

This challenge to wear more color is getting easier and easier when you find fun dresses with bold, bright prints.  When I saw this tropical print NY Collection dress in the Gwynnie Bee* new arrivals I knew I had to have it.  This dress is perfect for light, breezy city days in the city and goes great from day to night.  I paired the dress with a bright orange studded clutch, black sandals, bangles with a watch for my #wristgame, and my signature sunnies. Style Report: A Colorful Welcome to Spring

A Night of Glitz and Glamour

I always love a good excuse to dress-up and the Style Coalition’s 4th Annual Fashion 2.0 Awards was the perfect occasion.  The awards show was a great as I got to see all my favorite people in one room and show support for the digital fashion age.

My look was what I called “MTV Red Carpet”. Since I don’t usually have a full length gown in my closet I went with a Michael Kors one shoulder draped dress that I paired with some Teggings and a pair of G by Guess wedge sandals.

On the accessory front, close friend and jewelry designer Karen Ko of k2o by Karen Ko provided me with some major bling for my ears and fingers.  I also added a chunky bracelet from the Duro Olowu for JCP collection and a clutch from REISS that I picked up on my recent trip to London.

My makeup seemed to be the talk of the night. To get my “Gold Lame” eyes I started by rimming the inside of my eyes with Maybelline Eye Studio Master Drama in Midnight Master, then apply the new Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal in Gold Rush from lash line to outer brow extending out in V shape away from the eye.  Pat the gold shadow color from the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush “Give Me Gold” palette  on top to really pop out the gold color.  Line your eyes with the Eye Studio Master Duo liquid liner and finish up with Maybelline Rocket mascara.

Style Report: On the Rain Soaked Streets of New York

We all know black in the un-official official wardrobe color for all New Yorker’s so with that in mind along with the gloomy, rain filled forecast I went with all black knit and leather with touches of gold.

I love a good peplum top or dress, they are great for the fashionable plus-size gal and when I saw this leather peplum top from Asos Curve via Gwynnie Bee knew exactly how I would style it.  I went with a pair of faux leather and knit leggings from DKNYC, gold and pewter bangles from Bauble Bar, and my trusty DKNY satchel.

Since it was pouring outside I found it a great time to break in my new Duro Olowu for JCP umbrella that added some nice color to my all black look.  You can find more from the Duro Olowu for JCP over at JCP.com

A Wrap Dress for a Wrap on NYFW

My last day of NYFW involved a trip to the CFDA, lunch at Bouchon Bakery with my fellow editors Alex (@KENTONmagazine) and Quentin (@AvenueSwank) and friend/designer Zang Toi’s Fall 2013 show.

Since I was going to be running around the city, I went with a practical yet fashionable gray wrap dress from Kiyonna via Gwynnie Bee and knit/faux leather leggings from Torrid.  The weather was pretty mild so I ditched by heavy jacket in favor of my oxblood DKNY trench for a pop of color.  Accessories include bangles and necklaces from BaubleBar, tote from DKNY, sunglasses from Michael Kors, and eyeglass frames from Flutter

A light day was just what I needed to wrap up NYFW and it was capped by a great show.

NYFW Day 4 - The Print of the Day

In honor of the DKNY Fall 2013 show, my look for day 4 was mostly DKNY, and as most people in the world know, I do love me some Donna Karan designs.

I also want to give a special shout-out to @StyleCoalition and @Covergirl for their fabulous #CovergirlStyle Lounge.  I was able to hang-out, recharge, and even get my make-up and hair redone for my evening shows.

My look included a black & white zebra print shirt dress from DKNY’s contemporary line DKNYC (zebra print no longer available, similar style here), black leggings from Torrid, IMAN Platinum Collection Faux Fur coat (HSN.com), a black & white print DKNY handbag that I got off eBay, and pink poppy earrings from the DKNY + Bauble Bar collection (no longer available).

The DKNY Fall 2013 collection blew me away with all its retro 90’s, modern chic goodness; you can read my review here

NYFW Day 3 - The Color Show

image

Most people assume I hate color as I mainly where black, gray, or whites. The truth is I love color, but as a plus-sized women I have to work with the options I have and the truth is 75% of my options are in the darker section of the color wheel.

Well thanks to design Karen Kane, I was able to add some fun color-block action to my NYFW wardrobe this season with this fabulous blue, black, white, and gray dress from her Spring 2013 collection (which is available at Gwynnie Bee)

I added to my look with a pair of tangerine drop earrings from Bauble Bar (style no longer available, simliar style here) and a tote bag from BCBGeneration (exact style available here).

NYFW Day 2: Fashion vs. Nemo

image

This little winter storm named Nemo hit NYC on day 2 of NYFW.  This meant any ideas of just getting by with just layering went out the window and the full on parka’s came out to play.

It was a little too cold, windy, and did I mention cold to do a shot without my jacket but my overall look was warmth.  Under the parka are black leggings from Torrid, an oxblood empire-waist tunic dress from Maitai from Gwynnie Bee, and my Rolando Santana “Berne” shrug.   My outwear is a parka with faux fur lining from IMAN Platinum Collection (HSN.com), Michael Kors FNO edition sunglasses (no longer available, similar style here), and my DKNY Saffiano Leather Zip Tote.

NEMO hit but Fashion ruled as the tents at Lincoln center were the ONLY place in NYC that didnt’ shut down!
